From PDF to Digital Loan Application

Central Bank relied on a dense PDF for commercial loan applications. I redesigned it as a responsive digital workflow that preserved every required field while making complex financial information easier to complete, manage, and track.

The Challenge

The existing commercial loan application was a static PDF packed with financial information, legal language, assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and applicant details.

The digital experience needed to preserve every required field while making the process easier to complete. It also needed to support situations the PDF could not handle well, including additional financial entries and multiple applicants.

My Role

I was the sole designer on the project, responsible for translating the existing loan application and requirements into the complete desktop and mobile experience.

With limited visual guidelines from Central Bank, I established the interface patterns, form structure, responsive behavior, and conditional workflows while collaborating with the project manager, stakeholders, and developer through implementation.

Turning One Dense Form Into Clear Steps

Rather than presenting the full financial statement at once, I divided the application into a guided sequence of focused sections. Business details, applicant information, financial information, authorization, and supporting requirements were grouped into logical steps, making a complex application easier to understand and complete without removing any required information.

Making a Static Form Flexible

A PDF can only provide the space printed on the page. Real financial information is rarely that predictable. The digital workflow allows applicants to add assets, liabilities, and other entries as needed, removing the fixed limitations of the original form. Applications can also be stored in one place, reviewed by status, and managed as digital records rather than separate documents.

Outcome

The finished product replaced a rigid PDF process with a structured digital application that is easier for both applicants and Central Bank to manage.

Applications can now support multiple participants, accommodate additional financial entries, and be tracked digitally from submission forward. Completed applications also create stored records with timestamps that support auditing and simplify ongoing application management.
