Rebuilding a Cinema Portal Without Starting Over

Deluxe Digital brought our team into an existing Cinema Portal project that had already fallen behind. With only a short window to finish the work, we preserved the strongest parts of the existing interface, rebuilt weaker areas, and unified the product into a cohesive desktop experience for tracking digital cinema packages.

The Challenge

This was not a clean slate redesign. We inherited an incomplete product with a mix of usable patterns and inconsistent execution. The challenge was deciding what could stay, what needed to change, and how to bring the portal to completion without losing more time.

My Role

I was responsible for the visual design and interface refinement of the portal, working from Deluxe Digital’s established requirements. I focused on hierarchy, consistency, screen structure, and the repeated UI patterns used throughout the product.

Bringing the Interface Into One System

Rather than replacing everything that came before, the work focused on creating consistency across the pieces worth keeping. Navigation, typography, status indicators, tables, controls, and expandable content were refined so different areas of the portal felt like parts of the same application.

Tracking Content Across Theatres and Titles

The portal allowed users to follow cinema distribution from different starting points. Theatre views showed delivery activity for individual locations, while title views showed how specific releases were moving across the cinema network. Shared status patterns and layouts kept those experiences familiar as the context changed.

Beyond the Distribution Dashboard

The portal also supported the account and administrative tasks surrounding the core distribution workflow. Registration, theatre access, profile management, password controls, and notifications carried the same visual language into the supporting areas of the product, creating a more consistent experience from sign in through daily use.

Outcome

The finished portal turned a fragmented work in progress into a cohesive product Deluxe Digital could move forward with.

By building on what was already working instead of restarting the project, we were able to resolve visual inconsistencies, complete the remaining interface work, and deliver the experience within a highly compressed schedule.
